Tulsa Author Visits Middle School

Dreamland Burning author ties Tulsa history to modern story.
Monte Cassino Middle School was visited by guest author Jennifer Latham, author of Dreamland Burning, a rich work that links past and present in a story that explores racial prejudice. The day started with a middle school series of lectures in the MPAC. Then the 8th grade, who read and studied the novel, hosted a question and answer session with Ms. Latham, followed by a book signing. Then, the 8th grade departed for lunch in the Greenwood District. There they were met by Kelly Gibson of @toursoftulsa who guided the students on a walking tour of the Greenwood District and Reconciliation Park, while illustrating parallels from the book to these historical settings. And finally, Pastor Dr. Robert Turner met the students at the Vernon A.M.E. Church and offered perspective of this historic church where many survivors of the Tulsa Race Riots sought refuge and were spared. He ended the session with a prayer with the students. This was a very moving day for all who participated.
