Elementary School Science Teacher
Monte Cassino School is seeking an Elementary School Science Teacher to begin the 2024-2025 school year.
The Elementary School Science Teacher plays a pivotal role among the Elementary School faculty. As the sole science teacher in the building, this educator meets with all 2nd – 4th grade students each week delivering quality instruction that develops and engages young scientific minds. He or she collaborates with other teachers to integrate subject areas when possible to help students further understand how STEM can be incorporated into all areas of life and future careers.
Monte Cassino School is a Catholic Benedictine, independent, co-ed school, Grades PK3-8, with an Early Childhood Learning Center (PK3-K), Elementary School (grades 1-4), and Middle School (grades 5-8) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Teachers at Monte Cassino are responsible for providing an appropriate educational atmosphere which encourages student learning, and the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and psychological growth and maturity following school philosophy, goals and objectives. Teachers must possess a strong work ethic and demonstrate initiative independently and within a team context. We are searching for a teacher who can embrace the joys and challenges of working in a school, celebrating the wonderful moments and navigating the messy ones with empathy and resilience.
The Elementary School Science Teacher:
- Creates a positive classroom environment in which students feel loved, supported and able to learn
- Designs, develops, and delivers quality lesson plans centered around hands-on learning that adhere to Next Generation Science Standards
- Provides suitable assessments and deliver helpful feedback to students, parents, and other teachers
- Establishes classroom expectations and help students meet them
- Provides extra resources, support, and interventions for students who are struggling
- Grades papers/projects, update records, and handle various other administrative tasks
- Organizes an annual science fair
- Assists with duties such a carline, lunch/recess supervision
- Is an active participant in the life of the elementary school
The desired candidate has:- A Bachelor’s degree in education or teaching subject area
- A minimum 3 years teaching experience in a science classroom
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong classroom management skills
- Collegial disposition and ability to work alongside adults in the community
- Sense of humor, creativity, and flexibility to adapt as needed
- Passion for working with students aged 6-10
- Proficiency with technology
Physical requirements:
- Works at desk and on a computer for periods of time; must be able to operate office equipment
- Works in a fast-paced environment, dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines
- Must have the physical energy and stamina to move about campus throughout the day, including climbing staircases; may work long hours
- Be able to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
- Works intermittently in a variety of weather conditions, including the possibility of heat and cold
