Sister Marie Pierre Enters Eternal Life

Sister Marie Pierre passed away October 25, 2022.
Sr. Marie Pierre (Mary Hazel) Fleming died on October 25, 2022 at St. Joseph Monastery Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born to Lillie Smith Warrich and James Fleming on December 17, 1928 in Ashdown, Arkansas. She attended Benedictine Heights in Guthrie, Oklahoma and entered St. Joseph Convent in Guthrie in 1947. She made temporary vows in 1949 and professed perpetual vows on July 15, 1952 in Guthrie.
 
Sr. Marie Pierre earned a BS in Education from Catholic College of Oklahoma in 1955 and did additional studies in Education and Spirituality. Sr. Marie Pierre taught at parish schools in McAlester, Henryetta and Okeene. She taught in Tulsa at Monte Cassino, St. Catherine’s and Marquette School. She served for forty-five years at the Church of the Madalene in Tulsa. Her ministry there was highlighted by the women’s retreats and her visits to the sick and the dying.
 
In her Benedictine community, Sr. Marie Pierre served many years on the Monastic Council and as a delegate to General Chapters. She was a woman of common sense, devotion to God and her community, a dry wit and love of the beauty of God’s creation. Toward the end of her life, Sr. Marie Pierre received devoted care from the monastery health care staff.
 
Sr. Marie Pierre was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Jimmie Cruise and Dovie Lewis. She is survived by her Benedictine Community, nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends.
 
Vespers with be prayed for Sr. Marie Pierre on Thursday October 27 at 6:30 pm, in Marian Chapel at St. Joseph Monastery, 2200 South Lewis Ave and the Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Madalene, 3188 East 22nd St. South, Tulsa on Friday October 28 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sr. Marie Pierre’s memory are being made to St. Joseph Monastery for a project dear to her heart.
