The Elementary School at Monte Cassino strives to provide a seamless transition to more challenging academic work in a developmentally appropriate environment.
Students within the Elementary School are provided opportunities each day to build their reading and math skills, begin formalized approaches to the sciences with a focus on hands-on instruction, and are given more options for art, music and drama. Monte Cassino's small class sizes ensure your student receives more individualized attention throughout the day.

Our Curriculum

Monte Cassino Elementary School focuses on providing programming to engage students and build their competencies in reading, writing and math so critical to finding success in the Middle School years and beyond.

Our curriculum is designed to meet and exceed Common Core standards, helping to prepare our students for the challenges that lie ahead in their future learning. Teachers at all grade levels within the Elementary School work together to ensure both horizontal (teachers across the same grade) and vertical (teachers of different grades) alignment of the curriculum to ensure that transitions between grade levels are seamless.

Students in the Elementary School setting receive daily instruction in reading, writing, math, social studies and religion. Weekly departmental classes include physical education, music, art, robotics (4th grade), library, and language (French, Spanish, Latin). Science is also offered as a departmental class and meets up to two hours each week depending on grade level. Students experience the basics of physical, life, and earth sciences via a multi-learning style approach that is interactive in design and provides robust learning opportunities.

Advanced Learners

Monte Cassino's purpose is to challenge each student's ability at his or her academic level to aim for the next goal. At Monte Cassino, high achieving learnersstudents who demonstrate above average problem solving skills and who desire additional challengesare served by two methods: extension classes that focus on developing higher level thinking skills, and individual scholar projects designed with the student's interest and learning style in mind.

For students who do not qualify for the extension class, but show aptitude in a particular subject or interest area, we provide an instructional coach who works with the student to create short-term activities or projects that can challenge and extend the student’s interest within the context of the academic day.

Additionally, our third and fourth grade students are placed in on-grade-level and above math classes to give students who work at a faster pace, and grasp concepts at a deeper level, the opportunity to do so among their peers of similar ability.
